As per reports, the last rites of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar were held with full state honours on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Baramati in Pune district. The funeral took place at the Vidya Pratishthan ground, where thousands of people gathered to pay their final respects to the senior leader.

According to information shared, Ajit Pawar lost his life in a plane crash earlier this week, a tragedy that shocked Maharashtra and the nation. His mortal remains were brought from his native village Katewadi, draped in the national flag, symbolising his long years of public service. As the procession arrived, the crowd chanted slogans like “Ajit Dada Amar Rahe,” expressing grief and respect for the leader.

The funeral ceremony was attended by several top political leaders from across parties. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar were present at the venue. Their presence reflected the wide impact Ajit Pawar had in Indian politics. Actor Riteish Deshmukh and many other leaders and public figures also attended the ceremony.

Ajit Pawar’s sons performed the last rites, lighting the funeral pyre according to tradition. Family members, including his wife Sunetra Pawar and nephew Rohit Pawar, stood together during the emotional ceremony. Senior leaders such as Sushil Kumar Shinde and Praniti Shinde were also present to offer condolences.

A large number of supporters from Baramati and nearby regions gathered from early morning. Many were seen with teary eyes, remembering Ajit Pawar’s strong connection with the people and his role in regional development. The atmosphere at the ground remained emotional and heavy throughout the ceremony.

Ajit Pawar was known as a powerful and influential leader in Maharashtra politics. His sudden death, as reported, has left a deep void in the state’s political landscape. The large turnout at his funeral highlighted the respect and affection he earned over decades of public service.
