The India Under-19 cricket team wore black armbands during its ICC Under-19 World Cup Super Six match against Zimbabwe at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Tuesday.
The players wore black armbands as a mark of respect after the death of veteran cricket administrator I.S. Bindra. He passed away in New Delhi on Sunday.
I.S. Bindra was a highly respected figure in Indian cricket administration. He served as the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 1993 to 1996. He was also the President of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) for a long period from 1978 to 2014.
In recognition of his contribution to cricket, the PCA Stadium in Mohali was renamed the I.S. Bindra Stadium in 2015. Bindra also worked as a principal advisor to the International Cricket Council (ICC) during Sharad Pawar’s tenure as ICC President.
Along with former BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya, I.S. Bindra played a key role in bringing the ODI World Cup to India in 1987. His efforts helped shape modern Indian cricket administration.
